How Do Thyroid Supplements Work?
The thyroid is an important gland in the body, responsible for secreting two different hormones: thyroxine and triiodothyronine, both of which are responsible for regulating your body’s energy usage 2. People with imbalances with their thyroid can face problems such as unexplainable fatigue, weight gain, and other problems3 These metabolic problems can be caused by a lack of or overproduction of these hormones.
Some say that thyroid supplements can help prevent or reduce those problems. How? By preventing or reducing the problems that some say can directly cause the thyroid to become dysfunctional4. They aren’t supposed to cure or prevent problems in the thyroid directly, but indirectly. This is the essential function of supplements, and why they aren’t supposed to be a cure-all – despite what some manufacturers might claim.
Thyroid Supplements May Help With The Following:
- Improve thyroid function
- Support optimum thyroid health
- Reduce problems which may impact hormone excretion

Things To Avoid
To buy from an unofficial website
Сounterfeit versions of male enhancement pills are being manufactured and sold, by unauthorized distributors on Amazon and eBay. Good high-quality male enhancement pills cannot be a few times cheaper on Amazon than on official websites.
“Free Trial” Offers
In our experience, companies that offer free trial versions of their male enhancement pills have something up their sleeve. It's generally something called an “auto-ship” scheme, where people get “free” bottles of product to try out, and after the first month, they're charged for a full shipment and find the product being delivered to them regularly whether they like it or not. That's because they're on a monthly billing plan that they have to opt out of. This causes headaches for everyone involved.
Made Abroad
We're not saying that you shouldn't trust companies in other countries. All we're saying is that when it comes to nutritional supplements, many nations don't have stringent rules and regulations for product purity, and some don't even contain the ingredients they're advertised with. Products made in countries like China and India have been found with missing ingredients or even undeclared prescription medicines, endangering users.
Celebrity Endorsements
Lots of nutritional products these days come “backed” by some actor, musician, or other well-known name. These people are being paid to promote the product, and usually have nothing at all to do with its development and can't personally vouch for whether it works or not.
Excess Iodine
Just as too little iodine in the diet can cause issues in your body, too much can be harmful12Make sure that you’re not taking a supplement that has too much iodine, and only take products with iodine if your doctor says you should. Otherwise you could be gambling with your health, and that’s something you never want to do.
Don’t Trust Amazon Reviews
Customer reviews and 5-star ratings are a sure way to make sure your product is the first thing in front of a consumer’s eyes. In this age of e-commerce, your sales rise and fall with how well they’re “rated,” but in recent years there’s been a nasty trend: companies buying fake reviews13A product that looks like the most popular item in the world might be a dud, and you’d never know – until you wasted your money on it. This trend has led to many companies and products being deleted off Amazon’s website, but that doesn’t mean more aren’t popping up every day. So that’s why you should never rely completely on a product’s rating, because it could be made up of fake or paid-for testimonies and is therefore unreliable.
What To Look For In A Thyroid Supplement
There are several things you need to be looking our for as you’re looking for a thyroid health supplement, and we’ve collected a short list of the top things. Read on to learn more.
Iodine
Iodine is a basic element that is required by the thyroid gland for producing hormones. The problem? Iodine isn’t produced in the body. That’s why people need to get it from their diet, and while there are many common food sources that leave most people with enough iodine, some don’t get enough5. By getting a supplement that gives you a daily dose of iodine, some who don’t get enough in their diet might see some improvement their thyroid function.
Selenium
Selenium is another mineral that’s needed to help the processing of thyroid hormones, and so a deficiency in this might be making things worse – and supplementing might help6.
Zinc
Zinc is a common mineral, but one not everyone gets enough of. And remember what we said about selenium and iodine? Same goes for zinc: this element is required in many processes in the body, and one of them is the formation of thyroid hormones7.
Ashwagandha
This traditional Indian plant has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for thousands of years for a host of treatments, including sexual dysfunction and energy. More recently people have started to look into its possible effects on thyroid health, and in one study it was found that the subjects who took ashwagandha saw a normalization in their thyroid indices compared to others8.
Manganese
This is a “trace” mineral, meaning that people only need a small amount of it, but it (like the above) is associated with balanced thyroid function9 That said, too much manganese can be supposedly harmful, so be careful10.
Vitamin B12
One of the most popular of the B vitamins, this nutritional rock star is utilized by the body to regulate energy production – and if you have hypothyroidism, chances are you have a deficiency in this vitamin, meaning it would be wise to make sure you’re getting enough11.
Money-Back Guarantee
No one wants to waste their money, but when you buy something off the internet from some company you’ve have no experience with, you could be taking a bit of a gamble. The pressure of that gamble goes away when a company offers to refund your money in case of something not working – this shows not only that they respect the customer, but they’re confident in their own product.

Thyroid Adrenal Reset Complex
B-
4.6/5.0
1094 votes
The Results
With friendly marketing and an apparently science-based formula, Thyroid Adrenal Reset Complex looks worthwhile at first. Unfortunately, without any scientific studies being linked to and with some questionable ingredients, the product soon takes a nosedive.
User reviews are promising, we’ll admit, but without a larger number of reviews to sample, it’s impossible to know how well the product will work for the average person. More people need to use it and review it before anyone can make that call. The product is very expensive at almost $50 per bottle. Especially if it takes a long time to start working, you’re looking at losing a lot of money.
This brand also stands by their products by offering a 30-day money-back guarantee, making them the obvious choice for our #2 pick.
Apricot Power Thyroid Health
C+
4.5/5.0

The Results
With a bare-bones operation and a simple clean formula of ingredients, Apricot Power Thyroid Health looks pretty good at first glance. Unfortunately they don’t offer much information about the product’s ingredients, and there’s no science offered to back it up.
Apricot Power Thyroid Health would be much more effective if it used other thyroid performance function boosters, such as Ashwagandha. They also provide very little aid for hormone output function, which is another one of the more effective approaches to increasing thyroid performance.
Gaia Herbs Thyroid Support
C-
4.3/5.0
1132 votes
The Results
Gaia Herbs Thyroid Support has a lot going for it. Clean manufacturing, good dosages of ingredients, and multiple disclaimers showing that they’re not trying to force this on people as a “miracle pill.” The company also doesn’t have any lawsuits against them.
There are some questionable additions to the formula, however, and the company doesn’t link to any scientific studies supporting the individual ingredients or the formula. Overall, Gaia Herbs Thyroid Support is a decent attempt at making a thyroidsupport supplement, but until they have a little bit more in terms of proof and science, we’re going to reserve our judgment.
ThyroLibrium
C-
4.2/5.0

The Results
ThyroLibrium had a lot of promise. It contains natural ingredients, including the popular ashwagandha extract our experts are such fans of, and it’s pretty inexpensive. The downsides are that the formula contains ingredients that don’t aid thyroid function directly, and that many of the company’s product reviews are suspect. On Amazon we even saw 3 and 4 star reviews that claimed the product didn’t work – which surely should have rated only 1 or 2 stars at maximum.
Nutritional supplements have to be the total package. They can’t just have a good price, or natural and allergen-free formulas. While there are some things to like about ThyroLibrium, it’s hard to avoid the reality of the poor customer review quality and the scattered formula. Right now, we can’t recommend it.
